Update on MTN Foundation Maternal Ward Support Project in Niger State

Renovations and upgrade of maternal wards in four hospitals, in Niger state have been completed by the MTN Foundation (MTNF), under its Maternal Ward Support Project.
This was done in conjunction with the Niger State Government and JNCI, the project partner. The aim of the project is to complement government’s national objective of reducing maternal and infant mortality in the country. See more before and after photos after the cut…







The renovations and upgrade is in fulfillment of the announcement made earlier in the year to renovate maternal wards in select hospitals, in six states across the country. The other beneficiary states are; Abia, Cross River, Kaduna, Oyo and Sokoto States. A total of 24 maternal centres will be renovated in the six states.

The four beneficiary hospitals in Niger State are: General Hospital Lapai; General Hospital Mokwa; General Hospital New Bussa and General Hospital Suleja.

While work has been completed in Oyo, Kaduna and Niger states, renovation and installation works are ongoing in the other beneficiary states.

Each maternal ward in the beneficiary states would be equipped with:

•          20 hospital beds with cardiac rest
•          20 standard hospital mattresses
•          20 standard hospital bed pillows
•          10 four-way foldable ward screens
•          20 metal bedside cupboards
•          20 visitors’ chairs
•          10 drip stands
•          20 hydraulic over-bed tables
•          10 height adjustable baby cots
•          2 Carl Novel baby incubators
